Yorkshire wedding photo of the week
Week 2 – Wood Hall Hotel winter wedding photograph
Well that didn’t take long – I’m posting week 2’s favourite Yorkshire wedding photograph already! I’ve just added a mini version of this image as my new Facebook profile picture and couldn’t resist telling it’s story here.
This is from Stephanie and Richard’s 2008 wedding at Wood Hall Hotel and believe it or not, it was the 22nd March. I know there has been snow in the UK on much later dates than the 22nd March, but this was just a one off freaky very cold day. It had snowed briefly in the morning in some parts, but in the main had cleared.
Stephanie and Richard had a civil ceremony at Wood Hall, and asked for their group photographs to be taken outside. This was a brave move, it was freezing, but a bride’s wish is my command, so that’s what we did. As soon as the group shots were over (it didn’t take long I can tell you!) we nipped to the bridal suite for the couple to have some shots indoors and for Stephanie to warm through. Stephanie wasn’t to be deterred, she wanted some shots on the Italian terraced garden, so off we went again outside.
After about 10 mins on the terrace, I noticed some very fine flakes of snow falling in front of the bride. I glanced over my shoulder, and saw a massive black cloud swinging over the Wharfe Valley, a long tail of snow trailing underneath. Stephanie was so ‘into’ the photos I’m not sure she’d noticed the cloud approaching. I suggested she and Richard run under cover as quick as they could. I quickly gathered my camera gear to follow behind.
My wife Karen who usually works with me kept her camera trained on the couple as they headed for the front door of the hotel. The snow cloud came in so quickly that it just began to envelope bride and groom as they ran across the car park. Karen nailed the shot. It now has pride of place as a big black and white print in my studio, loads of brides tell me how much they love it. It has become a firm favourite.
Thanks for looking in,
