Alan and Rachel’s wedding portraits in York

Engagements portraits in York

Whilst the whole of York seemed to be following the Queen around on Maundy Thursday, I was doing the opposite by trying to keep out of her way. Or more accurately, I was doing my best to avoid the crowds which had turned out to see her.

Alan and Rachel flew in from Hong Kong earlier in the week, and after a few days in Milton Keynes, travelled to York with one particular mission in mind – to have some fabulous wedding portraits taken amongst the sites and ruins of historic York. I spent the afternoon with Alan and Rachel visiting the Museum Gardens, the Minster, Stonegate, the Shambles, in fact all the best places that the city has to offer, and of course, many were on the Queen’s schedule. So we had to move where the Queen wasn’t, but nevertheless, it was busy wherever we went.

We did have a stroke of luck – after days of very cold weather, including sleet and snow, Maundy Thursday was a bright, sunny, clear blue sky day – chilly in the shade but nice and warm in the sunshine. And as luck would have it, it’s been cold ever since, so we really did experience a window of opportunity on the day.

I first met Alan and Rachel around lunchtime, and we headed for Museum Gardens and St Mary’s Abbey. Following a dress change, we then took a walk on the city walls, and visited Clifford’s tower. After a second dress change, we then took a walk by York Minster, into Stonegate, and finally took some photographs in The Shambles.

This was Rachel’s first visit to the UK, Alan studied here for 11 years before graduating and returning to Hong Kong to work.

It was lovely to meet Alan and Rachel, I am extremely pleased with the photographs we created together. I have added a small selection below.

Alan and Rachel are now in Manchester, they have tickets for the United vs QPR game. We’ll be watching, have a great afternoon!!
