Amy and Dan marry at Rudding Park, Harrogate, North Yorkshire

At last a wedding without even the threat of rain, just a day for the happy couple and their guests to enjoy in the glorious sunshine.

Amy and her bridesmaids visited Rudding Park spa before getting dressed in the new Rudding Park wing, fresh, modern, extremely contemporary and beautifully styled, and overlooking well tended gardens.

The first thing we noticed when we joined Amy and her bridesmaids was her Augusta Jones dress from Scarlet Poppy – it was in three bits! First came the corset and long skirt, to form the main wedding dress. The dress was cleverly designed to have the long skirt section interchange with a shorter skirt for after the first dance, a very sexy number (hope I’m allowd to say that!) we all had to be keep secret from the groom until after the first dance, when Amy nipped away to change.

Amy’s tasteful colour scheme of slate grey for the gents and a shiny mocha colour for the bridesmaids (I’m not sure that the colour description does the bridesmaids’ dresses justice, suffice it to say they all looked gorgeous), was complimented with flowers by Rudding based Colette.

To be specific, the bride and bridesmaids both had hand tied posies, Amy’s with akito roses, white bouvardia, white arabicum chincherinchee, with flexi grass around and over the bouquet, and the bridesmaids carried akito roses with silver aluminium wire around and across the bouquets. The tables sported a mix of martini vases and low arrangements with white flowers such as hydrangea, roses, bouvardia, veronica, arabicum chincherinchee and anthurium with foliages. It’s amazing what you can spot when you’ve seen a few of these things – kidding – thanks to Colette for filling me in on the details.

A civil ceremony in the Radclife Room was followed by a full church blessing by Father Michael in Rudding Park Chapel, and a champagne and canapes reception on the terrace.

There was also something of a music theme, with The Event Music Company playing a selection of popular tracks during the ceremonies and the afternoon reception. Tristan Mackay of The Bedroom Orchestra has a strong voice and plays guitar unplugged, and was called back twice by the guests to play some more, before the speeches could get under way. Later, Hussy Band rocked the guests into the night.

All in all, a fabulous wedding, professionally overseen by venue hosts Craig and Agnes, set against the amazing backdrop of Rudding Park. Our congratulations to Amy and Dan and their friends and family on a wonderful day.

24 hours before Victoria and Nick were married, I was driving ouround the North side of York ring road through the heaviest thunder storm I’ve ever seen in the area, with traffic slowing to a crawl and cars pulling off the road. A look at the weather forecast told me we were to expect heavy showers the next dayuntil around 4pm, after which things would clear into the evening.

We Brits don’t go much for accurate weather forecasts, but this was spot on. We saw two heavy downpours on the day of the wedding, one whilst the bride, Victoria, was getting ready at her parents’ farm with her bridesmaids and family, and one whilst we were all in church during the wedding ceremony.

As luck would have it, the second storm passed and the sun shone through the clouds right on schedule, during the signing of the register in fact, and after around 3.50 pm we didn’t see another drop of rain all day.

After a few family groups at church, we drove over to Sutton Park with Nick, Victoria and their bridesmaids and groomsmen, to spend some time in the resplendent gardens of Sutton Park, before returning to High Inhams Farm for an early evening drinks and canapes reception.

The finer details of the wedding were overseen by coordinator Lisa Sabin.

Just before their first dance Victoria and Nick released balloons into the by-then clear blue sky bearing goodwill messages written by their guests at the begining of their meal. It was then onto a double first dance for Victoria, first with dad and then with Nick, following which the rest of the wedding guests joined them on the dance floor to party into the night.

Friends and guests can register here to see the full wedding photography gallery once Nick and Victoria have seen their photographs, and in the meantime, I have added a preview set below for everyone to enjoy.
